Important carving from an early period for the genre of carved walking sticks. Collected in Cincinnati, Ohio. Six snakes ascend to the torso of the well-dressed man, one gaining a toe hold on a large frog. Another large frog and lizard or perhaps an alligator are behind the man. He appears unconcerned by the nest, which is approaching his waistcoat. Good condition. Captivating rich surface with some small, scattered scuffed areas. Once snapped about a foot above tip resulting in a 3” loss to body of one snake where reattached.
