A Fine Earthenware Eagle

Unknown Potter
Likely Mid-Western Origin
Earthenware
18 1/2” Tall

This bird reportedly was removed from a Chicago structure.  Perched on a rustic disc simulating the trunk of a topped tree. Modeled with precise finishing from a finely ground and compacted clay.   A welcome natural surface having atmospheric toning to the unshielded areas.  Well preserved having neither paint applied nor removed.  No exterior chips, cracks, nor restoration.  Without evidence of bird droppings so should the bird had an exterior existence it must have been in too tight a space for a landing. Probably dating to the early 20th or perhaps late in the 19th century.
