Attached note to reverse reads: “This print is awarded to Camilla Taylor, Owensboro High School for winning second place in the First Annual Exhibition of drawings from Kentucky High Schools held at the University of Kentucky, April 24-30, 1939. Ew Rannells.”

Long was best known for WPA murals, He did murals for post offices in Louisville, Morehead, Berea, and several other Midwest locations. The “Margaret I. King Library (now special collections at the University of Kentucky) has an outstanding series of murals on the second floor partially obstructed by office partitions. His academic training includes the Chicago Art Institute, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Academie Julien, the Paris school he chose to attend instead of the 1928 Olympics, which he qualified for as a runner.
