The 1859-60 Lexington City Director lists Edward Lewis as a “tinner” located on Main St. A clipped advertisement lists him doing Tin, Copper, & Sheet-Iron work at 16 & 18 S. Mill Street in Lexington.
I purchased this pot circa 1978 at a Thompson & Riley Auction in Lexington. Soon after I sold it to Dr. Benjamin Caldwell of Nashville, Tennessee who offered it at a single owner sale held at Belle Meade Plantation with Brunk Auctions conducting the 5-20/21-1996 sale. There I again purchased the pot. In the 40 years since the first purchase I have not encountered another example by this maker, nor a signed brass or copper antebellum pot by any other Lexington maker. Excellent original condition with exception of later knob on cover.
